I want to start developing a sequel to SEGA’s Ristar.
This page is for the music I produce for prototypes of this hypothetical sequel. I am working with artists and programmers to make a playable build that will hopefully be released soon.
I made all of the pixel art in this section.

Planet
Rundune
One of the planets in this game is desert-themed. The first stage of this planet has Ristar in a vast desert, fighting against sandstorms and enemies. He then moves through traps and puzzles inside a floating pyramid in the second stage.

Theme for
Stage 1
In the original Ristar, each planet has a theme for the first stage and a variation for the second stage. I tried to make use of this property in intriguing and clever ways.
The first stage uses an alternating 6/8 and 3/4 rhythm throughout, and the theme enters after the three introductory bars of 5/4. The key is E♭ minor. The first section containing the theme is interrupted by a bridge going up and down an E♭ Dorian scale. The theme returns and is finished with a section outlining an E♭-diminished chord. The stage theme repeats from the start of the first section.

Variation for
Stage 2
The second stage theme uses melodic content from the first stage in the key of B♭ minor. The time signature throughout is 4/4. The introduction uses the B♭ harmonic minor scale over a progression with its inner voices outlining an F-diminished chord, similar to the ending of the first stage's theme. The first section of the second stage uses a similar rhythm to the bridge in the first stage, except the scale is B♭ natural minor rather than Dorian. This section makes heavy use of Phrygian major ♭II chords in its harmonic progression. The second section moves to E♭ minor, and a variation of stage one's theme morphs with a slightly different rhythm. The third section stays in E♭ minor and plays with some solo passages, shifting harmonically between the tonic and dominant. The stage theme repeats, returning to the introduction in B♭ harmonic minor.
